I’ve called a few news stations to try and get the word out about our event, and they ask if I have a press release? WTF is that??

For instance, to submit a business article/press release, do I specifically have to contact the business department? Or can I just contact the newsroom? Will the newsroom just refer me to the business department?

I know that in a press release, the journalists use the information given to them in the favor that would benefit them the most. But isn’t an academic paper a similar thing. Since the thesis is either against or for a topic?

Yahoo always displays random top stories that are featured on the homepage, so, where can I submit my story for it having a chance to be displayed on the homepage?

Also, where are some other good sites / newswires that I can submit my story too ?

I am trying to write an article and need some information. I called the guy who helps coordinate the event and he said he was sending a press release “right over”. I waited 30 minutes, no email and I called him back. He sounded annoyed and STILL hasn’t sent it. I was very polite and respectful while speaking to him. Is this just because I am a new freelance writer?
This is something I am writing for Associated Content to build a resume up.
Guess I was just being impatient….I just got it =)

jenjen asked:

Or should that be stated in the media advisory? If I’m sending out a media advisory with information about a press conference, should I repeat the conference information in the press release (which is about new education programs, not the conference itself…)? This is confusing me for some reason…Please help! Thanks

Do I put ATTENTION (editor/reporter name) in the top of the email? Do I just put an attachment or do I also put the press release in the email? What is professional?

Do I call it a media advisory or press release?
