Basically, you want to make an announcement for the company or organization in the hopes that a news story will be written about it. The key to writing a good press release is to make it easy for the writer to write a story about it. Therefore, you want to provide all pertinent details.
You should include the most important information at the top of the press release. The first sentence should be a synopsis of the rest of the information. While you want to include all relevant information about what it is you are writing about, you want to do it in descending order - in PR writing this is called the “inverted pyramid” style of writing. There’s some good information at PRWeb.com on how to write a release.
One more thing, If you really want to wow your prospective employer, include as many keywords or keyphrases that support the news.release. For example, if you are writing a press release about automobiles, include words in the release such as car, auto, car safety, seat belts, etc.
You want to include the most important information at the top. Usually press release starts off with who, what, where, when, etc. and then continues with other relevant information. Sometimes press releases have the who, what, where, when at the end too.
