How is an academic paper different from a press release?

I know that in a press release, the journalists use the information given to them in the favor that would benefit them the most. But isn’t an academic paper a similar thing. Since the thesis is either against or for a topic?

    A press release is a statement made by a company that is official .

    Aacademic papers are not because it has no berring on the public`s eye and only your teacher is reading it.
