Do you have an agent? If not, then ask your publisher or editor to help you with the press release.
your agent or editor should be able to help you with this.
If its self published or vanity press (good luck) you can check out the format for press releases in books.
Your press release should written to include exactly what the newspaper needs: who, what, where, why, how and when. If there’s a particular angle you’re shooting for, make sure you get that in the lead. It should also include a brief bio on the author and follow-up contact information (for both the author and whoever issues the release - the former info usually presented aside either before the release or below the end).
Don’t bother writing anything fluffy and flowery… remember your audience: writers can see right through fluff and it doesn’t interest them. You need to be succinct and interesting. Also, if you’re sending the release directly to news organizations (vs a news wire), it would behoove you to address it to a specific person, rather than hoping it finds its way to the right person.
Good luck!
