Wraithlord999 asked:

Are press releases free? Or are there any fees? Does the wire (or google.com/news) pick up all press releases or do most of them fall through the cracks

Most of them fall through the cracks. Plus getting on
    google news is pretty ambitious.

I’ve had to submit press releases to newspapers, magazines and other various publications via email (maybe about 300). Then I had to call them up, ask them if they received the email and see if they were interested in printing the article. 4 or 5 prints of the press release (out of 300) was considered successful.

Composing your own press release is free (obviously) but distributing them is another story. There are businesses that run on the sole purpose of distributing press releases. You’ll have to pay for those. There are also companies that will draft a press release for you. That’s money as well.
